Summary of Encadenados

The rich ranchero Alejandro Valdecasas remains widow with two children, Eduardo and Catalina: the first is uncontrollable and rebel, the second is generous and shy. Don Alejandro meets the little German. German informs Don Alejandro of wallet larceny and he recovers it. Touched by his courage and honesty, Don Alejandro brings German to his house. He becomes a deep friend of Catalina, but with Edu they become rivals immediately. The years pass, Don Alejandro dies and German and Catalina are in love, but Eduardo still hates German from jealousy and Caralampio, the administrator of the factory "La Seiba", persecutes him. Then German is courted by Blanca and Isabel. Catalina is courted by Daniel who is Blanca's brother. For a set of circumstances, Catalina marries Daniel and German becomes the owner of "La Seiba", he marries Blanca but both don't have love. In reality German is Alina's son, a member of a gypsy tribe and he reconcile with her and Aurelia puts him as a chief of the tribe. Isabel is pregnant and she tries to ruin German. Then Blanca kills her brother by accident, but German is accused and arrested unjustly. Blanca together with Berta try to poison Catalina. German escapes from prison and Caralampio together with others hunt for him. In a dramatic final Caralampio dies trying to kill him. Eduardo transforms and Blanca will suicide. After two years "La Seiba" will be a holiday for the couple.

"Encadenados" is a free version of the novel "Wuthering heights" by Emily Bronte.
The Brazilian versions of "Encadenados" are: telenovela "O morro dos Ventos Uivantes" (1967, T.V. Excelsior) with Altair Lima and Irina Greco and telenovela "Vendaval" (1973, T.V. Record) with Helio Souto and Joana Omm.

Viendolo ahora, quizas la gente recuerde a ENCADENADOS con mas carino que el que se merece o que se merecio en aquella epoca. No es que no haya sido una mala historia ni mucho menos – es mas, se puede decir que fue un exito mas (aunque menor) en la carrera de productor de Ernesto Alonso. Desde un principio sono como una idea genial del Sr. Alonso – con esta historia (basada en la pasional novela de origen ingles CUMBRES BORRASCOSAS, verdaderamente una fantastica eleccion!) lograria alimentar el hambre que el publico mexicano tenia por ver a dos de las estrellas mas rutilantes de aquel entonces, Christian y Humberto, en jugosos roles sacados de la literatura clasica que iban perfecto con las imagenes que hasta entonces habian creado en torno suyo estas dos grandes personalidades de nuestro medio artistico. Los roles de “German” y “Catalina” los podrian inmortalizar en el firmamento de leyendas e iconos que ahora incluye a joyas nacionales como: Angelica Maria (la eterna “Valeria Donatti” de MUCHACHA ITALIANA VIENE A CASARSE), Eduardo Palomo (pocos actores han sabido conjugar imagen, actuacion y personaje tan bien como lo hizo Lalo con su soberbio “Juan del Diablo”), Ofelia Medina (su jorobada en RINA cautivo a todo Mexico), el mismo Ernesto Alonso (a la fecha sigue causando pesadillas para quienes recuerdan su perturbante caracterizacion de “Enrique de Martino” en EL MALEFICIO), Veronica Castro (la siempre tierna y atormentada “Mariana” de LOS RICOS TAMBIEN LLORAN; y que me dice de aquel torbellino de amor, bondad, rebeldia y sinceridad populachera que la constituyo como la consentida de todo Mexico en ROSA SALVAJE) ...
